New Delhi : Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Sunday said it was a matter of great honour and responsibility to once again take the oath as a Member of the Council of States and continue serving as the Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House.
In a statement issued after the oath-taking ceremony, Kharge said he considered it a privilege to continue representing the people in the Rajya Sabha and pledged to discharge his responsibilities with dedication and commitment.
He expressed gratitude to Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan and Deputy Chairman Harivansh for their continued support in the functioning of the House.
Kharge also thanked the leadership of the Indian National Congress, particularly Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress Members of Parliament, party colleagues, workers and supporters for their trust and encouragement throughout his political and parliamentary career.
The Congress leader further acknowledged the cooperation extended by floor leaders of various political parties, especially members of the INDIA bloc and the broader Opposition. He expressed confidence that coordination among Opposition parties would become even stronger during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Kharge said the Opposition would continue to raise issues concerning the public, voice people’s aspirations and hold the government accountable inside Parliament. He reiterated that representing the concerns of citizens with sincerity, conviction and determination would remain the Opposition’s foremost responsibility.
